Melee Modifiers

The following circumstances result in a -1 penalty to traits used in close combat:

  • Hurt
  • Medium Encumbrance
  • Exhaustion (due to exertion or lack of sleep)
  • Hunger/Dehydration
  • Unstable Footing (due to slippery, loose, or shaking surfaces)
  • Inferior Position (due to an opponent's significant height advantage e.g. higher ground or mounted)
  • Glare (due to bright sunlight directly behind an opponent, temporary blindness caused by emerging from darkness into bright sunlight, bright reflections or intense beams of light aimed at the eyes, or mild intolerance to sunlight)

The following circumstances result in a -2 penalty to traits used in close combat:

  • Very Hurt
  • Heavy Encumbrance
  • Unfavored Hand

The following circumstances result in a -3 penalty to traits used in close combat:

  • Impaired Vision (due to blindfold, eye irritation, total or near total darkness, severe intolerance to sunlight, or blindness)
  • Intoxication
  • Dizziness

Rules regarding aimed attacks are ignored in favor of the rules in Section 4.35, Hit Location.
